Our First Lady
Evangelist Betty J. Smith
Evangelist Betty Smith is the fifth of six children born to Robert and (the late) Johnnie Mae Thomas. She is the loving wife of Pastor Donnell Smith, the mother of Tarina and Orlando and the grandmother of 5.
Evangelist Smith began her personal and committed journey with Jesus July 24, 1988 at the Goeppingen Gospel Fellowship in West Germany and also where and when she met her charming husband (Donnell Smith).
Shortly after the couple’s marriage they were relocated to the Washington, DC area in March 1990, where the Smiths joined Emmanuel Church of God in Christ, where she received her calling into the ministry.
She is the Site Administrator/Financial Analyst at the MITRE Corporation where she has been employed for the last 24 years. She is very much involved at her local church where she works closely alongside her husband and serves as the President of the Women’s ministries. Her concern for hurting women, leads her to coordinate events, conferences, and services which help to edify and empower women for kingdom living.
Although, she insists that public speaking is not her forte, accolades must be given her in this area. She is an outstanding speaker on women’s issues.
In May 2000, Evangelist Smith graduated from the Samuel Kelsey Bible institute, as the class valedictorian, receiving a teacher’s certificate.
She has served as the former coordinator for the District Missionary of the Warren G. Crudup district, has worked on the jurisdictional level as part of various committees, and as a co-coordinator of the State Women’s Convention. She is currently serving as a member of the licensing board for missionaries/evangelists
She is one of the founding leaders of the intercessory prayer ministry at Emmanuel, and her quest to reach hurting and desperate people is widely known. In July of 2009 she began volunteering with Guide Post as an intercessor, praying for people throughout the country. Evangelist Smith has been gifted with a deliverance ministry; people have been healed and saved through her one-on-one contact with them.
In November 2010, she appeared on a local TV show with “Daughters of Distinction”, where she was able to share about her recent endeavor of being a coauthor with twelve other authors. The title of the book is “And He Still Speaks”. The chapter that Evangelist Smith wrote is titled (The word was with God).
Formerly in the United States Army but now in God’s army carrying a new weapon, THE WORD OF GOD, her favorite scripture is Jeremiah 33:3, “Call unto me and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not.
